"La Casa De Papel" : Extraordinary skills of the Professor in handling human resource.

 


LA CASA DE PAPEL alias Money Heist, the popular Spanish TV series aired on Netflix has gained a huge fan base and popularity amidst its gripping script, convoluted planning, and mind blowing heist. On the face of the show, it is mainly focused to the central heist, however it also showcases the unique ways of handling the bunch of thieves by the character known as “The Professor” the leader of this money heist.

This blog will review the fundamental HRM aspects that the professor effectively managed towards a successful, a large scale money heist that world has ever seen.


Understand HRM in Money Heist

From the beginning to the final moment of the series, HRM revolves in recruiting, developing and managing the each team mates who are engaged in the money heist. The master minder “The Professor” has demonstrated his extraordinary HRM skills throughout the heist by selecting his members based on their specific skills, knowledge, attitudes, innovative thinking.

 

Recruitment of characters:

The most attracting key factor of the HRM in this money heist is the diligent recruitment and selection methods deployed by the professor. He has scouted the entire country to find his team mates who posse’s unique skills, expertise in technology, languages, communication, software skills, building and construction  , robbery strategies which can be useful in his mega money heist. The professor ensures that his team has diversified skills and capable of attending to specific roles, enabling to reduce the risk of failure.

Each member had code names to identify during this heist; hence they choose city names of countries as their code names. Each character were selected to perform a specific task in this heist, a few are;

Tokyo    – A young Spanish girl who is a rebellious character, posses armory skills, she is identified as “lone wolf”.

Rio        – The cyber hacker of the team, very innocent and naïve boy compared to other team mates.

Nairobi – She is the quality manager of the group and in-charge of money printing during the heist.

Moscow – Industrial machinery expert and experienced Miner in the group, the oldest of the team, a gentleman who cares about team mates in the group.



Development of Team mates:

Professor made great efforts in training and development of his team. He has invested a plethora of time and other resources in diligent planning, deep explanation of the heist procedures by taking scenarios, taking blue print of the heist building, possible interact and counter attack by the forces, possible mental discriminations, possible requirement of medical treatment, how to handle the pressure and panic attacks  during the heist. In that, he ensures that every team mates is well equipped and duly understand the respective roles, fostering them to trust and develop confidence each other.

 


Maintain Relationship:

Perfect example of reducing the employer and employee relationship gap is exhibited by the professor during this heist as he has understood the importance of a strong relationship with team mates to succeed the heist. He spent many hours , weeks, months with his team mates in order to get to know each other personally, knowing their personal goals, sorrows, helping to overcome from their weaknesses and challenges that they faces outside this heist. This personalizes care creates a massive loyalty towards him, trust on each other, increase of team motivation, and enhance their live performance during this mega stress project.

 


Empowering and Communication:

An effective communication and empowering to respective task are vital in HRM, and professor has managed to deploy the theory in a perfect manner. He ensures that all team members are having clear and transparent communication among them, so he encourages for open-dialogue environment as it allows, all are free to raise or share their concerns, ideas.  This is fostering a friendly, collaborative environment to succeed the heist.

 

Managing internal conflicts:

Throughout the heist, professor had to undergo many obstacles especially on the conflict arises among team mates despite they were provided training and developments.  Professor mediates and resolves any type of disputes among team mates in order to keep the team together as one family which has displayed the exceptional skill of professor in handling conflicts.  He ensures that team mates are focused on their goals and not to make this heist failure due to the internal conflicts.

 

Motivation:

Keep the team mates motivated all the time is very important and it is also a challenging especially in a dynamic environmental like a heist a bank. Professor’s calm attitude, outstanding foresight of obstacles and problems, undoubted belief of his team’s abilities make inspiration and confidence. He always celebrate successes, admires individual performance and this uplift team’s morale and their commitments towards to achieve the goal.

 



The story of La Casa De Papel aka Money Heist, does not cage the fans because of the mind blowing, thrilling and action packed heist. Besides, it is giving a valuable insight of HRM practices and concepts through the Professor, an enigmatic character who had a great vision in his mind and executed perfectly.  His diligent selection, recruitment, training and development, communication, involve in conflicts, motivation have demonstrated his exceptional HRM skills which emphasis that how important is Human Resource Management to drive towards the success.
